Peter Critchell

A fulfilling 30-year operational career spent with the London Fire Brigade (LFB), Peter finished his career as a Strategic Leader across a variety of Directorate management teams including Training, Operational Policy & Assurance, Special Operations Group and the Inter Agency Liaison Group. Aligned with his rank he undertook the duties and responsibilities of a Deputy Assistant Commissioner (DAC) and a Level 4 Incident Commander at operational incidents.  He also represented the LFB as a nominated ‘Gold’ Commander gaining an understanding of the wider FRS having a role to play nationally influencing the strategic direction in key areas such as the Chief Fire Officers Association (CFOA) and a National Operational Effectiveness Working Group (NOEWG).  He has worked internationally at the request of the British Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO), advising on UKFRS operational capabilities in Canada, Brazil, Madrid and South Korea.

Since retiring from the LFB he has expanded his portfolio, further honing his leadership qualities by servicing many training contracts in the UK and overseas in Qatar.  As an independent consultant he now specialises in the design, development, delivery and subsequent assessment of Strategic Incident Command and Emergency Response & Preparedness including the delivery of several multi-agency training events and as an Exercise Director, the delivery of various ‘live’ exercise scenarios.

Projects influenced include the Marauding Terrorist Firearms Programme (MTFA), management of Counter Terrorism (CT) threat intelligence, the Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear Programme (CBRN), Smoke Filled Environment Programme (SFE), Major Events Planning, Contingency Planning, Control of Major Accident Hazard sites (COMAH) as well as existing and new major transport infrastructure.
