Mark Threader

Mark retired from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service after 29 years’ service, where he achieved the role of Group Manager.  

Mark has worked Leading Firefighter, Sub Officer, Station Officer and Watch Manager at a number of stations during his career. Following periods of time in the role of Station Manager managing a number of stations, and working in the Operational and Technical Support Team at FSHQ, Mark achieved the role of Group Manager, spending the latter 5 1/2 years of his career as Borough Commander for the Manchester Borough area.

With a wide range of experience as a Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 Tactical Commander, Mark qualified in a number of specialist roles whilst an FDS Officer, including Operational Assurance Officer, Command Support Officer, Hazardous Materials and Environmental Protection Officer (HMEPO), Hazard Detection, Identification and Monitoring Advisor (HDIMA), CBRNe Tactical Commander and Airwave Comms Advisor.

Development of others was a key part of Mark’s daily work for many years, as well as carrying out and supporting formal assessments across all levels of Incident Command.

Mark’s non-HazMat qualifications include IFE Level 4, ILM Workplace Coaching and SFJ Level 6 in Incident Command.

As a member of the KLA team, Mark has achieved the role of Assessor, carrying out revalidation and promotional assessments at SfJ L4/ICL2 and SfJ L6/ICL3 across the UK from Devon & Cornwall to the States of Jersey, and as far north as Tyne and Wear. He has supported revalidation and promotional assessments at the strategic level of ICL4, and supported the delivery of Command Support Operative, Command Support Officer courses and a new CCS qualification in Level 1 Fire Control Incident Command.
